Queer as Folk (Fictional)
Queer as Folk was an American television show based on the British series of the same title that ran from 2000 to 2005. Groundbreaking at the time of its release of portraying gay and lesbian characters in a realistic and unapologetic manner. Showcasing the issues and challenges that impacted their community and lives. Their legacy helped pave the way for shows like “The L Word,” but help an audience foster understanding and empathy through storytelling.
Developing a creative concept that combines my love for the show while capturing the essence of the show.
Influenced by one of the characters in the show, Debbie Novonty. A working class mom and outspoken LGBT+ activist who provides maternal outreach for the characters. We wanted to develop a campaign that would embody her spirit of spreading love and kindness that she does unconditionally.
Created by Gilbert Baker, the rainbow flag is a universal symbol that is seen flying proudly. Reflective of its iconic colours, it plays a key visual in the campaign. Using a sans serif typeface like Montserrat, it conveys a loud and bold voice exactly the way the character Debbie portrays herself. The design features the colours from the rainbow flag. A quotation from the show assigned to each six posters. In hope to promote the show it but also to help raise positive awareness for the LGBT community..
